Sharyn’s Sirens: Daily police and fire roundup

WHERE THERE’S SMOKE …

• Firefighters are gathering in the Boistfort Valley this morning to burn down a house. It’s a practice event, with a donated residence on the 100 block of Lost Valley Road, according to Lewis County Fire District 13. Chief Gregg Peterson says they expect to wrap up about 3 o’clock this afternoon.

PARKS, GUNS AND THE LAW

• Chehalis police were called about 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday to Recreation Park about a man with a gun. It turns out the city of Chehalis has a ban on carrying firearms in city parks, but it’s not enforceable. The officer was caught a little of guard, Chehalis Police Department Chief Glenn Schaffer said. When the officer arrived to the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street, a citizen had pulled up the city’s municipal code on their phone and showed it to him, Schaffer said. “We hadn’t dealt with it in so long, we didn’t realize it was still on the books,” he said. There was a time when it was prohibited, he said, but court rulings in a Seattle case a few years back made it clear cities don’t have the authority to ban guns in parks, he said. The chief said he was going to talk with the city attorney right away and get the ordinance repealed. In the past, the offense was a misdemeanor. “They didn’t arrest him, they did the right thing,” Schaffer said. “Just had a conversation.”

The beautiful thing about a gun is that it never has to come out of it’s holster to protect you. Criminals think twice when they see a armed American Patriot. As for the Criminal Centralia Police Department, it would be nice if they finally get sued for Civil Rights Violations. They deserve to be sued. Many members of Centralia have had their rights repeatedly violated by this gang of rouge criminal police officers.

If this was a black man with a hoodie carrying this gun he would’ve been arrested.”

    Really??
And charged with what? The jail won’t take anyone without a RCW.

    Republican Logger says:
Why would children be scared by seeing a handgun on a mans hip…???

Oh yeah, those are children raised by libetals and taughtvthat they are bad, scary and dangerous.

Whenever I watch a movie showing actors with guns, someone usually gets shot for whatever reason. I believe that could be enough to create fear in a child.
Do you realize how ridiculous your statement reads? You aren’t seriously that paranoid regarding your safety are you?

  4. You Idiots says:

Sorry I meant great point Uintah. Teach your kids to fight like a man, take some Karate classes or boxing lessons, and learn to walk away from fights. Walking around with a guenon your hip is asking for trouble.do they allow that in Compton California?

  5. You Idiots says:

Great point uninitiated. If I was in Pakistan or Detroit a gun might be an option but not downtown Hicksville. Guns around here are good for accidental shootings only.

  6. Republican Logger says:

    @ extenuating circumstances,
I apologize for the grammar errors as there is not an edit function available to use.
If there was you may be able to retract your statement seeing how your post had zero bearing on the debate at hand.

  8. Extenuating Circumstances says:

    @ Republican Logger.

I’m sorry. But you just make it so easy –
Examine the spelling and grammar of your post. That should provide insight into the misgivings some hold as to whom carry guns around in public – – Apparently, firearms aren’t the only tool seen in public.

  9. local joe says:

I will never ever take my children to a park or any public area without my (permitted) concealed firearm. My soul job in life as a father is to protect my children at any cost and my firearm is tool to help me do that in a severe situation. In my eyes permitted firearms should be aloud everywhere.

  10. Uintah says:

In 7 decades I have never once had to rescued by a gun-toting he-man. Not a single time did a lone ranger have to help me out of damsel-like distress. For pete’s sake– are there ANY grownup men left in the US? Are they all 10-year-old boys walking around with visions of outlaws dancing in their heads? I wonder if this is a reaction to women’s lib– that as women assume some of the role of supporter, men are having to redefine their role and have lighted on Protector. If so, the male instinct to protect can be taken way too far. Nine times out of 10 the outlaw is the man of the house, not some boogyman hanging out in the park. It is frigging SCARY to think that when I shop at Safeway, 90% of the other customers are armed and might well, if provoked sufficiently, start shooting each other.

Why would children be scared by seeing a handgun on a mans hip…???

Oh yeah, those are children raised by libetals and taughtvthat they are bad, scary and dangerous.

Raise your children to know that a firearm is a tool and to respect them and we wouldnt have this issue.

I also believe that all of the United States should be open carry with no boundaries by state borders. If we are a United states all states and all the people here legally and not a felon on probation should be allowed. I also believe that once a criminal has paid his debt to society and paid all his fines he has done what was sentenenced by a judge he should have his rights restored

  13. MadThumb says:

Why not just ban parks since they seem to attract so many ‘bad people’? Wanna have fun and be safe? Stay home.

So much misinformation. A citizen didn’t pull it up, the Community Resources officer who was off duty brought it up and then called the for a uniformed officer (Who was her husband) and they violated the mans civil rights.”

No arrest. No ticket. No confiscation of weapon.

Just what civil right was violated? I’m missing something here.

  15. Nikki Dods says:

Really??? Sandra?? Leave your gun in your car?!? Okay. And then by small chance the car gets broken into and gun is stolen. Then, a criminal is now in possession of a stolen firearm and could go harm someone with it. I do not own a gun, but am a strong believer of the constitution and right to bear arms as is most of Lewis county. What if someone tries to harm you or your children at a park and someone who has a concealed pulls their weapon to PROTECT you and your children? I don’t mean any disrespect toward you or your opinion but what struck me was the “leave your gun in your car” comment….

  16. Guilty Bystander says:

I don’t want to see guns in parks either, Sandra, but the law is what it is and so is the Second Amendment. Interesting that guns can be banned in public schools but not public parks.

  17. BobbyinLC says:

    Sandra,
I fully agree with you about parks needing to be safe zones and that drinking should be illegal. I also am a firm believer in the right to carry firearms CONCEALED if you have the permit.

With that said gun ownership comes with heavy responsibilities: If you are carrying-you do not drink. Firearms are for use to protect against deadly force not just fights.

If you are making the choice to carry a concealed weapon into an environment where there kids then that choice must include a strong sense of when that weapon should eve be used and that is for only a last resort.

Being in the midst of families with children should make a reasonable gun carrier think even more about the options available in situations besides the gun.

There is no reason to carry a gun out in the open in parks (even though WA is an open carry state) because this would most likely make the children nervous. Parks and playgrounds are supposed to be places where they can completely relax and just be kids.

  18. dont matter says:

Haha corrupt cops looking like little brother! Lol

  19. Barber says:

    What? Talk about misinformation…

  20. Dave says:

Sandra, I would like to think that the people that has been in places where a shooter would look for victims (which is about any place any more) that a thinking person would like to know that there maybe someone around that could maybe intervene and be able to protect them. Because it is very proven knowledge that the police are not gonna make it until long after the fact and the victims are there to be tagged. This idea that firearms seen are a bad thing, the people who feel that way should avoid most shopping centers as most all places to shop have firearms there for sale and heaven forbid a child would walk by and see all them there.

Looks to me like most people are reactive thinkers and not deep thinkers. And if you want to live in the liberal governments and media “live in fear” life well good luck to you all.

  21. Uintah says:

If you can’t sell liquor near a school, you should not be able to carry guns in a park. But cops aren’t into making people safe; they’re into money-making schemes such as catching seatbelt violators.

  22. NotTheGoodOldDays says:

I also do not want to take kids to a park where there are people walking around with guns. But the truth is, there are some very shady, armed criminals in our parks these days – and they aren’t there to swing on the swings… they are there because the park is filled with unarmed, vulnerable “marks”. The more isolated the park, like Rainier National Park, the more I would be concerned about being alone and unarmed.

  23. Lonnie Smith says:

Sandra Henferson, I carry my firearm anywhere I go that is legal to do so by law. From the moment I get out of bed in the morning until I lay down at night, my firearm is on my hip. And even at night, it is within reach. What if a pedophile was trying to abduct your child at a park and there was no one to stop him, (or her)? I not only carry for my own protection, I carry for the protection of those that cannot defend themselves. Next time you’re at the grocery store, look at people. How many do you think are armed? More than you’d think. My 55 year old wife is licensed to carry too. Neither of us would hesitate to protect a child, or your child, or YOU for that matter. You go ahead and have your fun. Someone may be there when you need them.

  24. david duarte says:

I don’t understand how Sandra is going to compare punk ass jerks who drink in the park to law abiding citizens who have a right to carry a weapon? I carry my weapon because of those punk ass thugs who drink in parks and start fights. I have the right to protect my family whether it means running them to safety or standing my ground. The last time I went to a park in chehalis my wife and I had to call the cops to report a local sex offender who was hanging out there.

  25. What? says:

Because a firearm in your car is s good thing. That is the number 1 place they are stolen from and end up in bad hands. Plus you cannot defend yourself if it is in the car.

  26. Troy Houghtaling Sr says:

Guns should be allowed any where a human can walk. A park is a public place, paid for by the tax payers whom he is. I bet if that same person was there with his gun and protected you you would be singing a different song. People don’t pack guns (most) to show them off they pack them to let people know they are protected and to let you know you are to if they need to help you. In Washington state if a felony is in progress a gun owner can stop it. What is a felony look it up. So the next time you bitch about a gun some where just think maybe that person may save your life if needed. Now what would you do if he seen something he could help you with and refused to help his fellow neighbor.

And yes that is my real name and I did not hid behind a fake one.

  27. Sandra Henferson says:

I dont care what what the laws is i dont think guns should be allowrd in parks i dont want to take kids to parsk or other places where people are walking around with guns a park is for fun not a place to show off ur right to carry dang people leave ur guns in ur car if ur there to have a good time with ur family. Things can go wrong ur not allowed to drink in parks but people do on the sly and then a fight may break out then guns come stray bullets can kill .
