A one-time finalist for the position of chief of police in Chehalis has been arrested for allegedly spiriting 51 bottles of liquor out of a Safeway store stuffed inside his pants and jacket.

The (Aberdeen) Daily World reports Ray Sowers, 50, pleaded not guilty to second-degree theft on Friday in Pierce County Superior Court.

Sowers resigned as police chief from Montesano in 2010 after an investigation found he spent thousands of dollars of public money on personal purchases, according to news reporter Brionna Friedrich.

He interviewed for the top cop job in the Lewis County seat in late 2006.

You know what? I’ll take you up on your “everybody does it” moral relativism and sign my wife and myself up for Obamacare. Even though we probably have the resources to pay the full premiums ourselves, we qualify for some heavy subsidies that’ll save us a lot of money. Thanks, Larry. I feel better already.

People rip off the government every day. The government rips the people off in return.

This is life. There’s nothing you can do about it.

The corporations lead the way when it comes to the amount of welfare recieved. The small guy just ends up being a scape-goat because theft is only legal for SOME PEOPLE.

The sooner you learn to accept it, the sooner you can get off the computer and have a life.

Stealing is not a disease. The fact that he is an alcoholic may determine whether or not he can control his drinking, but stealing 51 bottles of liquor is theft. I’m pretty sure, in spite of his disease, he knew what he was doing and could have controlled it. Going back and forth into the store to steal 51 bottles is clearly a calculated and controlled act.

Ridge – while a year or three years or whatever in in the Pierce County jail will help dry him out, what then? The disease of alcoholism is partly described by a marked inability to control drinking. If he could control the drinking, he wouldn’t be an alcoholic. Jail may be fitting punishment, but it does nothing to treat the underlying condition.

Really – 51 bottles at one time? do you think anyone noticed? maybe he would of gotten away with it if it wasn’t for dropping one of the bottles on his way out the door(kidding)

  6. Ridge says:

Sounds like he has, and has had an alcohol problem. Maybe a year in the Pierce County jail will help dry him out.

  7. Brady says:

I bet if you look it up, the item he purchased with the government money was alcohol. Just a guess.
