A Chehalis man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after four passenger vehicles wrecked when traffic slowed to avoid running over two ducks on Interstate 5 south of Tumwater this afternoon.
Leo E. Morrison’s Toyota Corolla was totaled, as was a Chevrolet Suburban, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers called about 3:15 p.m. to the southbound lanes near Israel Road report the only other injury was a 66-year-old passenger in a BMW, who was not hospitalized.
Morrison, 46, was first transported to Providence St. Peter and then flown to the Seattle hospital, according to the state patrol.
The investigating trooper points to driver inattention as the cause, but has not issued any citations yet, according to the state patrol. The ducks did not survive.

Seriously? Let’s see take out a critter that will do little to no damage to my rig??? or……. take out a $10k car? Decisions, decisions….
Thank you for posting this! The Corolla looked like it had the Jaws of Life used on it. Sad when animals are cared for more than human life, especially at 65 MPH.
lmaooo @ too soon….tree hugger state!! I mighta felt a lil bump or watched feathers fly. If its not big enough to cause me to wreck my car, then Im not causing me to wreck my car to avoid it! BUT…I think somebody else slowed down for the ducks and he hit another car because thats what happens when traffic stops on a freeway and 1 person isnt paying close enough attention. Scares the crap outta me every time I see brake lights lol and think how many times people hit their brakes to pause their cruise control. Im a nervous wreck on the freeway lol.
Over a DUCK!
How can someone have no understanding of risking human life over a duck!?!
WSP ought to print a few pages of tickets on that one! DANG!!!
If this was in the Midwest or south, the duck(s) would have not caused serious injury like this. Only in a tree hugger state would someone risk the life of another human to avoid a feathered critter on a busy interstate.
Leo Morrison is a long time resident of this area. Does anyone know of his condition? Alot of people know of this accident and are worried.
So that’s what was happening. Traffic was backed up for miles, and by the time we got to Exit 102 the whole freeway was closed. I hope Mr. Morrison will be OK.
