Soaper, I agree and have totally thought the same thing myself having been to quite a few parties in my youth. The massive scattering of drunk kids to flee the cops is incredibly dangerous. It also did nothing to deter the next kegger. But holy cow, 1000 people? Now thats a turnout! We didnt have social media back in my day!

  2. Soaper says:

Either way that is a hell of a turnout. I would imagine that you (Ridge) have never had to give medical treatment to adults who partied a little too much. Just kids huh? I used to go to a lot of parties when I was in high school (unless I had a wrestling tournament the next day) and I will say that yes they were fun. In the real world kids are going to go to parties, drink, have sex, etc and if I was a parent I would much rather my kid tell me that they are going to a party and be honest than trying to hide it from me. A little trust between each other is a good thing because the kid is going to go either way.

Another thing I remember from those days is when the cops would bust the party up all they succeeded in doing was flushing about 30 drunk kids onto the roads at the same time. People that were planning on staying the night or maybe asking around and finding somebody to drive if they had had too much to drink all of a sudden are sprinting to their vehicles on a moments notice in a panic because they don’t want to get MIPs. To me that is creating a dangerous situation.

  3. Old Long Johnson says:

Sharon’s report says only “a handful” of the people attending were “underage”.

No mention of drugs being involved at all except alcohol, which is legal for adults over 21.

I agree that the fire during a burn ban was stupid and was probably the result of ignorance of local burn bans rather than a blatant disregard for public safety.

  4. Ridge says:

Sure Soaper, 1000 irresponsible kids with a huge bonfire in the forest during a burn ban because of dry conditions and having no facilities for human waste would just be a barrel of laughs. Underage drinking and drug use always makes for a great party. Having had to be the person giving medical treatment to many of these “Great party” kids over the years, I assure you it’s not so great.

  5. Soaper says:

Jesus…1000 kids at a party in the woods? Wish I would’ve been born about 20 years earlier. That sounds like fun.
