News reporter Donna Gordon Blankinship writes the largest increases were outside metropolitan areas, where drug treatment and awareness are lowest.

It was their talent that gave them their legends. Heroin usually ended up giving them early graves.

  2. Born a thousand years ago says:

Some of Americas’ most beloved Jazz singers, Blues guitarists, Country and Western performers, Beat writers
and ground breaking comedians were Heroin addicts.
I’m not saying heroin gave them their talent, just their legend. Your destiny’s out there kids. The choice is yours.
I suggest you hold on tight with both hands, because it’s one wild ride!
    YEE HAAW !!

I had to chuckle when I heard this factoid, that isn’t exactly a new
occurrence in this region. ( I knew of people who were on the needle from both Pacific and Lewis counties as far back as the ’70’s.)
My chuckle was the result of hearing the source of the heroin being reported as coming from Cowlitz and Clark counties.
I thought the stuff came from usually Mexico, ( black tar & brown ) or the more potent stuff from central and southeast Asia.

But that would be casting unfair xenophobic aspersions.

The police are fully aware of the heroin situation around here. They are constantly arresting people for it. So I don’t know what you mean by saying that they are “hiding” it from the public.

  5. C Cobain says:

Its sad how Lewis county police force hides this from the public so we think the problem is “marijuana” and how terrible it is when it is not!! When they should be saving our money and stop prosecuting people for stupid charges that do not matter when their attention and money should be on our children that are dying from heroin! Wake up people!! Its time to vote in a new Prosecuting Attorney…one that wont waste money on trivial charges and will protect our children from this horrible drug..and stop making us look over there while they do what they what over here!!
