A man and a woman with possible life-threatening injuries were airlifted after a single-vehicle wreck west of Chehalis today.
Firefighters called about 11:40 a.m. to Twin Oaks and Frogner Road found a pickup truck on its side, and cut off its roof to extricate the female passenger who was trapped.
Neighbors and passing motorists were on the scene helping already, according to Lewis County Fire District 6 Chief Tim Kinder.
Sarah Hamilton said she heard tires squealing, a crash and a boom outside her home which sits at the bottom of a hill.
She and her boyfriend ran out and found the driver outside the truck on the ground, she said. He was conscious and talking, she said.
“He said his brakes went out,” Hamilton said.
The couple were apparently delivering phone books; a load of them were scattered around the truck.
The two were transported to the Chehalis-Centralia Airport where they were loaded into two helicopters bound for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

I delivered phone books. Horrible job. They cheated me out of gas-mileage. Most people don’t even use phone books anymore.
The phone book people force new recruits to watch videos, but none of it warns against loading a vehicle beyond it’s capabilities.
I hope you can file a claim with L&I, but I had a hard time finding out who the company was that even operated the phone book thing! It’s an invisible shell company by the looks of it.
To LC CITIZEN, LC must stand for “Low Class Citizen” That is my big brother you are talking bout…. No one said that the skid marks weren’t from his truck. You need to show a little compassion because one day you too my need some from your brother man….
And I bet that the front breaks went out witch is why there is skid marks there from the rear breaks
Pretty shitty how you slave away delivering books and now the company you work for won’t help you a single way with anything
Brakes went out? Funny how those skid marks lead right to the truck!
