Kayla Croft-Payne hasn’t been heard from since April 28, 2010

CHEHALIS – A vigil will be held tomorrow afternoon in Chehalis to mark the three year anniversary of the disappearance of Lewis County teen Kayla Croft-Payne.

Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. at Recreation Park in Chehalis. Members of the general public and families of other missing persons are welcome, according to Michelle Bart

“We just want to get the word out not to forget Kayla,” Bart said.

Croft-Payne was 18 years old and living in a trailer between Chehalis and Napavine on April 28, 2010 when she last logged onto her MySpace internet account. She was reported missing on May 5 by a friend who hadn’t seen or heard from her for several days.

When the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office investigated, detectives followed tips up into Pierce County, and down into Cowlitz County, saying the last place they could verify she was seen was a trailer park in the Toutle area.

Croft-Payne’s aunt, Karen Hinton, who lives in the Portland area, connected a few months ago with a Vancouver, Wash.-based group called National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE), and together they have pursued information about Croft-Payne meeting a photographer online as she created a modeling portfolio.

Her last postings on her Facebook account talk about how she couldn’t wait to get her portfolio done and that she was going to a photo shoot, Hinton said.

It’s a path the sheriff’s office is now beginning to examine, Hinton said.

Croft-Payne had posted a profile on a website called Model Mayhem, as did at least two other missing girls, according to Bart of NWCAVE.

Bart said the Sunday afternoon vigil will be informal, and include an update on the case.

Pretty girl… This is really sad and I hope for the sake of her family u are all wrong about what happened to her. Unfortunately girls that age just don’t stop all activity on their FB page unless they are physically unable to use a computer or smart phone.
I can’t imagine the horror of just having no idea what happened to ur baby. The unknown is fucking scary. I hope her family finds answers and peace.

Lest we forget about Nancy Moyer, missing since March 2009. Ten year old Lindsey Baum missing since June 2009 and young Kyron Horman, ( I may have his exact name wrong ) missing from the Portland area, also I believe in 2009.
And what ever became of the case of the 14 year old girl, described as a run away from Lakewood who’s body was found in a scupper box in the City of Centralia resevoir? I’m not sure but is that the upper Nisqually river or the Scookumchuck ? I think that occurred around 2009 as well.

That’s quite a cluster of missing people, all occuring in a set geographical area in the same general time frame.
It may just be happenstance, but it’s an interesting one none the less.
I have long found it odd that not a single one of these cases have yet to be solved. Even though they are in different jurisdictions.
You would think at least one case would have been resolved by now.

I don’t think your notion is far-fetched at all, OLJ. Sadly, it’s a real possibility. Since many of the people who perpetrate these murders are able to stay on the move from area to area, there are probably a lot more serial killers (and murders) than most of us would believe. There’s also the chance Kayla got involved with the wrong people before her disappearance. It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened, either.

I hope she turns up alive SOMEWHERE, but every day she doesn’t makes it less likely that she will. But that chance, however small it may be becoming, is the reason these vigils are important…sometimes, hope is all we’ve got.

What is the LCSO doing about the case?

  5. DALTON says:

yes, their psycopaths, withno consciences. they just want to play their games. this photo shhot stuff when i was young it was offered to me at a grey hound station by a man wanting to me follow him to his friends. i did not go. but i wasnt into modeling either or i might have believed him. he was so instint. then anothr one approached . after that in centralia. that was years ago tho.

I do not find this far fetched in the least. A few years ago the authorities were aware of at least 3 that worked on the I-5 freeway from Portland to Spokane. These assholes actually tried to connect with each other and kind of competed and left messages for each other. These type of creatures and I hesitate to call them animals as I never met an animal as fucked up as a serial killer, are a weird type of criminal. They are convinced they are some kind of national treasure and when caught should be kept and studied . They have no actual motive that a normal person would understand so are hard to catch. When caught they show no remorse just self pity. They should be destroyed immediately with no appeals, or any of that other plea bargain bullshit Ridgeway got. A fucking bullet to the head. I’m sorry their Mommy did not nurture them , or their Daddy raped them , but we should kill them quick. I wish I had no knowledge of them and they lesson us as a species. Sorry for the rant but if they were an animal they would be eliminated from the breed with no mercy just amatter of fact.

This sounds like an active serial-killer case. Given the circumstances, it is not as far-fetched an idea as some would lead you to believe.

First of all, you have to focus on the victims. The question one inevitably has to ask oneself is; what did the victim want most in life?

It’s a known fact that confidence-tricksters can only exist and prosper if they can convince people that they can provide the one thing they desire.

In many cases, one need look no further than Rodney Alcala to see how these types of serial killers operate.

Ted Bundy convinced many otherwise ‘normal’ women to get into his car for whatever reasons.

Chances are, this won’t be the last we hear about young brunettes coming up missing in the greater Lewis County area. In fact, I recall two such cases in rural Chehalis back in 1994 where young girls just vanished into what seems like thin air.

Tragic, but compelling and worth understanding.
