CHEHALIS – There will be no trial to shed light on what signs of abuse she saw or didn’t see in the weeks before her 2-year-old daughter died while in the care of her new live-in boyfriend.
Becky M. Heupel plans to plead guilty.
The 31-year-old Centralia woman was in Lewis County Superior Court this afternoon where attorneys told a judge they’d reached a “resolution” in the case.

The boyfriend James M. Reeder was sent to prison last month after pleading guilty to homicide by abuse, second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree rape of a child and possession of methamphetamine.
The toddler, Koralynn Fister, died from drowning and head trauma about 10 weeks after Reeder moved into the north Centralia household.
Lewis County prosecutors charged Heupel criminally, alleging she was warned Reeder was an abuser and chose to put her relationship with him before the well-being of her child.
Heupel is charged specifically with second-degree criminal mistreatment, allegedly recklessly creating an imminent and substantial risk of death or great bodily harm through her inaction.
Koralynn died on May 24 of last year.
The deal offered by prosecutors is that Heupel pleads guilty as charged and they will recommend she go to prison for a year and one day.
While the maximum penalty is five years, the standard sentencing range for someone with no criminal history is six to 12 months.
Her defense attorney, Paul Strophy, said part of the motivation is there are risks in going to trial. Prosecutors were threatening to upgrade the charges if they did, he said.
Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Shane O’Rourke said part of the agreement is Heupel must make a straight guilty plea, not a so-called Alford plea in which the defendant pleads guilty without admitting wrongdoing.
“This is one where we want her to take responsibility,” O’Rourke said.
Reeder’s plea was an Alford plea.
Attorneys on both sides have agreed to recommend a sentence one day higher than the top of the standard sentence range, so Heupel can serve her time in state prison instead of in the Lewis County Jail.
Strophy didn’t go into detail about why that was preferable, but mentioned the opportunity for his client to earn more “good time” to possibly get out early. O’Rourke said prosecutors don’t mind if Heupel does her time with the state Department of Corrections, as that benefits the county budget by avoiding jail costs.
The hearing at which Heupel is scheduled to plead guilty will be held a week from tomorrow in front of Judge James Lawler.

I have been reading this story as well as the comments since the story came out. I find it very funny that there are only two people on here in support of Becky. And those two people are one in the same uneducated “wangster” trying to make it seem like Becky actually has anyone’s support! Becky and Reeder need there graves dug by the same shovel! I know the facts of this case and what Casey Anthony…I mean Becky Heupel admitted publicly…She met Reeder online af few weeks before she let him move in and take over parenting her baby girl, and She never gave her a bath or changed a diaper after that. Neighbors heard Koralynn screaming day and night and her “mother”didn’t do a thing about it. Reeder was on meth and was keeping his stash in her house. She was aware of the injuries (that on any other child would have prompted her to call cps) and she didn’t even kick him out our bother to ask him what he was doing to her child. She pled guilty to a charge that blatantly states it was her fault. Hmmmm sounds like I know all i need to know.

Once a society is able to control the rate of its populations, it can better manage the planet’s dwindling resources of water and fuel. Will more people, comes increased demand on fewer and fewer resources. In time, crime increases and the quality of life goes down for the rest of society.
If we, as a people, took childbirth seriously, we would see to it that every child born can be adequately taken care of financially, psychologically, and spiritually by a parent(s) PROVEN to be able to do so.
Also, if we cared about the women who bore children, we would also see to it that young boys grow up to be men with a deep respect for women. As it is, girls and women are objectified and turned into sex objects for pleasure and entertainment. When you raise a child without the proper safety nets of family, spirit, and economy then you run the risk that your son or daughter will have a higher likelyhood of turning out to be an irresponsible person because they will be more likely to be exposed to the elements that naturally occur in an overpopulated place.

First off, if a man is unable to differentiate between sex and pro-creation, then he should be put into a mental institution for the rest of his life to protect the public from unwanted copies of himself.
Second, if a man is unable to pass basic background checks concerning his credit, criminal, educational, psychological histories etc. then inseminating someone should be crime punishable by jail time. If you don’t punish the asshole, his child will end up without a daddy and invariably end up in jail. In that case, you’re just punishing the child for the mistakes of their daddy.
Again, let’s say a man can pass background checks into his criminal history, educational, psych, credit, etc. and has a child only to abandon it later after cheating on his wife?
Aren’t there laws to protect that child? Certainly so, but in those cases the STATE is less likely to foot the bill.

Most people don’t care about children. They might say they love kids, but their actions prove otherwise. Most people never bother to take the time to learn about the difficulties of raising a child. They just decide one day to make a baby and they spend the next 18 years fumbling through it, making life miserable for others.
Most of the time, women enjoy getting pregnant because they get constant attention for nine whole months. Plus, women know that if they can’t afford to have a baby, they can rely on welfare to help cover the costs.
Many times women will have a baby in order to avoid getting a job. Here we have the “professional moms” and the other diaper-sniffers who think that chasing a child around a house while watching Jerry Springer is a job.
Most people don’t take the time to learn what it costs to raise a child so end up forcing the child to grow up in inadequate conditions with little to no opportunity to improve their lives.
If people appraoched the making of babies with the deep respect it deserves, they would THINK before having kids, and therefore make sure their child has EVERY ADVANTAGE this country can offer instead of every advantage the welfare office has to offer.
It’s amazing to me that in this country, if you want to adopt a baby, you have to undergo financial, criminal, AND psychological background tests! But, for some reason, if a horribly prepared woman wants to, she can just go out in the woods and crap one out. That doesn’t make any sense.

I am a mother to 6 children (3 of them step) and if i ever thought for one moment that any of my children were in harms way I would be a mother bear on the hunt and death would be the only outcome for that perpetrator. Under our law and system of justice, you have a right to be tried before a jury of your peers. Here is another case where the prosecutor’s office has denied someone that right. How? By telling her if she did not forgo a trial and plead guilty they would increase the charges. The Michael Golden abuses were supposed to have ended when the voters tossed him out.
I do not know if she should or should not go to prison for a year for what she may or may not have done or known. No one will really get to examine the matter now. Justice is not served, again.
