CHEHALIS – Whether the victim of a stabbing who allegedly initiated a fight using brass knuckles last month outside a Chehalis bar will face criminal charges for her role remains to be seen.
Ashley Stewart, 22, suffered numerous knife wounds at the hands of now-24-year-old Lena A. Castillo.
Castillo pleaded guilty last week in Lewis County Superior Court to second-degree assault, following a deal in which prosecutors said she had a self defense claim. She was sentenced to six months in jail.
Prosecutors said Stewart started the short brawl, approaching Castillo and striking her twice outside Garbe’s bar on Northwest Chehalis Avenue. She admitted she used a pair of brass knuckles, Lewis County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Will Halstead said when Castillo was sentenced.
Brass knuckles are illegal to possess.
Halstead said possession is a misdemeanor but assault with a dangerous weapon could be second-degree assault as well.
Prosecutors are looking into it, Halstead said.
“Now that that case is over, we just have to look at other angles,” he said.
Chehalis police called it mutual combat after they were called on Jan. 12 to the scene and arrested Castillo.
Authorities said the disagreement was related to a male the Centralia women both previously had a relationship with.

I dont go to bars, especially in Chehalis, for this specific reason!!! I may not have children to take care of, but I bet you I take better care of my animals than this Ashley girl could ever dream of taking care of her kids….. One more thing to add . . . if this idiot we’re talking about is actually in school (probably trying to get her GED?) and working (minimum required hours at some menial job? in exchange for food stamps, free medical and dental for her and her kids, housing assistance, etc., etc.) as you claim, I’d bet anyone here a thousand bucks it is only because welfare has forced her to do something besides sit on her ass and draw benefits. Someone who genuinely has the drive and ambition to fully support their own offspring (without the benefits I mentioned previously) and attend school while working usually isn’t the same kind of person who goes around starting bar fights like a punk. Actions speak louder than words and Stewart’s actions show her to be a piece of shit . . . heck, she might even be YOU!

What happened in the weeks before really doesn’t matter in this instance because Stewart didn’t call the cops and there wasn’t weapons involved. The papers most definitely have this one right Kl33. Ashley should have waited for Lena to start the fight if that was the case. Instead, she took it upon herself to be the aggressor. If it wasn’t for the stab wounds Lena wouldn’t have had anything to do with the court system, just Ashley. It is too bad she has kids that have had to go though this with her, how scary for them. I do believe the courts will give Ashley more time than Lena on general principle, as they should. Lena didn’t deserve ANY time for her part in it in my opinion. Had she not plead out, she would have gotten off, I think. Although, you can never tell how things will end and she was facing some serious time.

“Mutual Combat” my ass. I don’t think much of either party, however, what was Castillo expected to do when the Stewart bitch walked up and attacked her? Stand there and get her ass kicked? Stewart is lucky Castillo wasn’t in possession of a legal firearm or this could have turned out very badly for her because if someone comes up and attacks ME in public, with no provocation, I’m not going to engage in “mutual combat.” I’m going to shoot in self defense.
