Deputies last night found a pipe bomb inside a backpack believed to have been carried by a 46-year-old Morton man during a burglary.
Vern V. Hamilton was arrested for possession of an explosive device and burglary in connection with a break-in to a business near his home on the 900 block of Davis Lake Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called yesterday to Davis Lake Materials where overnight someone had gotten inside the office and a storage shed and stolen 12 dozen pairs of work gloves, a generator, a plastic container, a cash box with $5 in change as well as a hand cart and some Busch beer, according to the sheriff’s office.
Because a witness reported seeing Hamilton that morning walking down the road with some of the missing items, deputies searched his home, the sheriff’s office stated in a news release.
Deputies conducted the search and arrested Hamilton about 7 p.m., she said.
The homemade pipe bomb – described as the size of a piece of dynamite – was found inside a backpack inside the camper where Hamilton resides, Chief Civl Deputy Stacy Brown stated in the news release.
Hamilton was seen wearing the backpack following the burglary, according to Brown.
Brown said they are assuming Hamilton may have been planning to use the pipe bomb for the burglary, but he’s not offering any explanation.
“They’ve been burglarized previously and been trying to fortify (the business),” Brown said.
Specialists with the Washington State Patrol responded about 10:30 p.m. and detonated the device, Brown reported.
Some of the stolen goods were found inside the camper, others were stashed in the woods, according to Brown.

I can not see how you people in the 900 block of Davis Lake Rd. are so good- when the police,parole officers etc. are at your house often. There must be a reason. As for Vern being such a great person- get real The Lewis County Jail Roster shows that he was charged with Incendiary Devices,Burglary, Assault 4th Degree,Man/Del.- Synth Drugs -Although it looks like the court released some of these charges during his plea agreement. Regardless – this guy should be in jail for 30 years we do not need him out on our streets with our
families.

Well here we are again! All you Perfect Law abiding Do Gooders, Relishing on other peoples mistakes and misfortunes. Venus was found Not Guilty because she was a person who was a target for the Counties Lame Ass Task Force, due to Rob Snaza’s personal issue. There fore they did not do their jobs as they have been trained, blinded by obsession. Not a Good thing for a Servant of the People, to hold onto. As for her brother, he has been in Alaska working, making $100,000.00 a year for the last 25 years (with the exception of the last 4 years) he fell off a roof 6 years ago and broke his neck, their family has had several family losses within the last 12 years and their mother asked Vern to move back home help out with the house and get his other needed surgery on his neck. They are not Trailer Trash, never have been. Nor are they in breed, or from Meade Hill. The only relations they have here are a few nieces and nephews. I say lucky for them. They have been here born and raised. Their mother works at a well known Assisted Living Place. Venus has only been unemployed for the last 5 years, due to closure of the bar she was employed at. They have had their family torn apart from deaths. Vern is still incarcerated in Lewis County awaiting a trial. There fore I do believe he is dealing with his wrong doing. Being accountable for his actions. For all your busy, nosy asses, the pipe bomb, which took the bomb squad 3 and half hours to set off, and after all that time all it did was pop. “WOW” big bomb. Also for your information, Your wonderful Odd Squad of Lewis County Sheriff, DID NOT, I repeat, DID NOT evacuate the area, nor did they Block Off the Street. WTF! The tale that the paper was told to print is a lie. Mrs Deck, their mother was present the entire time, and all the Cops did was put a yellow tape line across her driveway, It was she who brought to the attention of the Pigs, after 2 hours went by as the bomb squad was trying to explode the big bomb, and traffic continued to drive by the residence, she stated how, the whole thing was BS, “why is this road not blocked off” not til then did 2 officers return to their vehicles and drive 150 feet n opposite directions and park the cars across road. Their neighbors were never evacuated. Which, I believe is one of the first things on the list of things to do first when call comes in involving a bomb. Vern is not a criminal of the past his only record consists of merely driving offenses, here in Washington, and he has no record from Alaska, where he resided for 25 years. So if I were any of you Perfect Persons, I would step back Shut The F**K UP, until I’ve done some sort of double checking to back up my word, my slandering of other people solely on the word of a Pig, or the Paper. Yes she took it to the Box, the judge found her Not Guilty, he did not even leave the stand, no deliberation. Why, because the Prosecution failed to Prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that she did a drug hand off, she was accused of being a middle person. Yes, the Prosecution had a witness Chad Goble, he did testify, but as always prosecutions information comes from the Officers on a case. I am one of Lelani’s loving Aunties, not related to Vern, also not in Lewis County and certainly not trash. But what am I, is entirely amazed at the callousness of these comments. Regardless what I may feel about these types of crimes or who has committed them we should always try to keep in mind that judgement is to be left to the courts and divine not some fool with an internet connection.

I just decided to take the time to let you all know how stupid you look taking time out of your day to talk about a man who made a pipe bomb that DIDN’T work by the way it took the bomb squad 2 hours to blow up. And I never once said he doesn’t deserve to spend this time in jail right now, he needs to really think about what he did and yes maybe that means a few years in jail. The point I wanted accross was that I know the real him and it’s really disturbing to read all these comments when I know who he is and I know that’s not what my Uncle wanted to read either. But no actually neither me or my uncle even live in the state of Washington, we are just looking out for family. Family is family and I’m quite protective when it comes to it. I can’t believe this judge and prosecutor. If this was going on in
their neighborhood, shit wood hit the fan. For gods sake $5000.00 dollar bail who are you kidding. The police do their job and they let them out – what a load of crap. If it was in their neighborhood I am sure Domestic Terrorism would definitely be on his list of charges but oh no, it was just in the outskirts of East Lewis County where the people he holds hostage don’t count. Well this neighborhood will not stand for it any longer. Vern needs to be held without bail-can you imagine what and who he could have hurt had he decided to go to the Jubilee? It is too bad that there is no one running against Judge Richard L. Brosey. It is time this lenient judge be removed from the bench. This is not a minor offense – it is a felony and it should be treated so. He should not be holding such a strong position with in a county he obviously cares nothing about – when you set bail at $5000.00. To my understanding his bail was $100,000 and was dropped to $5.000. This is someone that could have killed many of our neighbors. What is Vern going to do as soon as he comes up with the 10% of the $5000.00 and is out? He had a pipe bomb and he committed burglary this is not stealing a news paper.

I don’t think this is bad luck or misfortune, I understand making
mistakes but I’ve never accidentally made a pipe bomb. I just hope that justice is

Sharon, I just wanted to comment on the Lewis County Courts Docket and the Trial set for the 10th of August for Venus Hamilton. She was found “NOT GUILTY” after a bench trial for her December 23, 2011 delivery charge. I think this is great news, and perhaps a front page article should be necessary, stating the verdict came about due to the lack of Procedure, and failure to fallow protocol from The Lewis County Task force, and Sheriff Department. Even with Prosecutions only witness Chad Goble, the Prosecution failed to prove beyond a Shadow of Doubt that Miss Hamilton made a hand off Delivery, or was Guilty of the charge. If more people would take their cases to trial and challenge the procedure of the officers, Justice would most certainly be served. Hurray For Her.
