Authorities are searching for a 23-year-old woman, suspected of stabbing her sleeping mother in Rochester this morning.

Amanda Lee Bassell

The 42-year-old victim has been taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia and is in stable condition, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called around 4:30 a.m. to the 18700 block of Elderberry Street Southwest, according to the sheriff’s office.

They are looking for the daughter, Amanda Lee Bassell, described as 5-feet 4-inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Bassell is wanted for attempted murder.

Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin says Bassell has strong ties to Lewis County and is believed to have gang affiliations.

Elwin said the victim awoke to being assaulted and was stabbed in and around her neck numerous times.

She was able to fend off her attacker and flee the bedroom, only to collapse in another part of the house, according to Elwin. The father was asleep in another room and awoke to his wife screaming for help, he said.

He said a smaller-type kitchen knife was used.

They have no idea what prompted it, he said.

“The mother was completely asleep and woke to being attacked,” Elwin said. “There was no precipitating events. It’s a complete mystery at this point.”

The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, according to Elwin.

Bassell was recently released from prison, for cases involving eluding in Lewis County and assaulting a guard while incarcerated, according to Elwin. She was then just recently in the Lewis County Jail and released, he said.

She had been staying with her parents the past week or so, he said.

The mother is currently undergoing surgery, he said.

The sheriff’s office says Bassell, who also goes by the last name Daarud, should be considered “assaultive” and not approached if spotted. They ask that anyone who knows her whereabouts to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at 360-704-2740.

@ guess who. I WAS Amandas best friend before she started using drugs. She WAS a beautiful person and HAD alot going for her. Your friend assisted in destroying her life. SHE is not the same person anymore and will always need to be locked away. MUMBLES is a low and dirty dog. You are right hes not in a GANG hes associated with a bunch of losers and likes to prey on the innocent and unarmed. HE will pay for the things he has done…including robbing innocent and unnexpecting sleeping individuals at gun point. There are people that know what he is capable of and he will have his day of reckoning. Take care

  2. better facts says:

Bikers, maffia and even skinheads are loyal…gangs are just retarded criminals with only one adgenda…THEMSELVES. + I do mean every man for themself

  3. better facts says:

Bikers are a club and maffia is a family…gangs are a group of idiots who commit crimes and beat eachother up to introduce new member to the future they have to look forward to. Imagine that…someone beats u up and then claims to love u for life and then u get what u should have expected…NOTHING but a future filled with violence and crime. Morons. And any gang based out of Lewis county has got to be even lower class than the others…if possible!

  4. better facts says:

The prisons are running out of funds and bearly offer these inmates any kind of “help”..she attacked a guard right when she got there and spent all her time in solitary confinement and got no counseling or help at all. They dont offer that shit to the inmates in “the hole”. She was made worse (if thats possible) being shoved in a cell all by herself for 3 yeras (not saying thats thd wrong place for her, its probly right wbhere she belongs). The fact is those “help” programs in prison are mainly reserved for those who are going to be there for a long time…the inmates with sentances under 5 years are just shuffled in and out of a revoving door like cattle. Its a BS system and the prisons arent helping anyone. Especially those who dont want to be helped and trust me when I say this girl doesnt want to be helped. All she wants is to be a badass gangbanger. And no one thinks stabbing ur mom in her sleep or attacking 60 year old guards who are weeks away from retirement is badass. Shes a sociopath and a nutcase who is long beyond help. Lock her up and throw away the key cus shes only gonna get worse. While I undestand the compassion one who doesnt know better might feel for a girl like this, its really just ignorance of the criminal mind…save ur compassion for her mother and her past and future victims if God forbid shes ever let back on the streets.

George – We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I don’t doubt that there are some that are loyal and trustworthy. I am not talking about the hardworking Joe who owns a Harley and likes to go on long rides with his significant other and/or his like-minded friends. I am referring to the type that are deeply involved in major crimes and racketeering (similar to the mafia or street gangs), like the Hells Angels, Bandidos, Free Souls or Vagos. Even in those groups, I am sure there are a few good guys. However, in my humble opinion, most of them are worthless pieces of shit you couldn’t trust as far as you could throw and are not one shred better or different than the ‘Crazy Vaginas’ we were laughing about. And the ‘Crazy Vaginas’ are just wannabe, copycat punks trying to pretend they’re tough. Centralia’s version of the Crips with no street cred. I wonder if their “color” is pink? LOFL

  6. George says:

Actually, “Disgusted”, bikers are more loyal to their own… at least the ones I hang with are like that… we won’t leave a Brother hanging in the breeze, nor will we rat on our Brothers. Maybe some of the others are like that, but not us.

  7. Disgusted says:

And George, I agree 100% with your comment about gangs. They act like they are all about taking care of their own, but when it all comes down to it, they are a bunch of lowlife, punk-ass bitches, who’d drop a dime on their own brother if it behooved them. They are uneducated criminals with no loyalty, no class, no morals, no scruples and no fucking brains. Just like bikers and Mafiosos, it’s all good until one of them suspects that you’ve gone against them. Then, whether they have proof or not, your ass is dead. The ‘Crazy Vaginas’ or ‘Stupid Pussies’ (LMFAO) and every other “gang” are the least loyal and most cowardly individuals on the face of this planet.

  8. Disgusted says:

OMG! Are you serious or insane? IF we fail to remember her for what she IS, rather than what she WAS, maybe one of us will get stabbed multiple times in our sleep, huh? She is a piece of shit that belongs in jail and the likelihood that she will be rehabilitated is practically zero. SHE ATTACKED HER OEN MOTHER WHILE THE WOMAN WAS ASLEEP! This is the woman who raised her and put a roof over her head once she was released from prison. If she’ll cross this line, there is nothing she won’t do, given the chance. This is why she should be locked up – probably forever. I believe that with all my heart.

  9. OMG! says:

Amanda was beautiful, smart, and fun to be around in school. She was a great person with a big heart. Im not quit sure what led her into the drugs that she did before she went to prison, but it completely changed her. My prayers go out to her family, and also out to Amanda. I hope that she can get the help she needs this time around, and that society just doesnt lock her up alone again and just think that she is going to fix herself alone. She oviously needs some serious help. Maybe some of the people that are out there screwing up there lives like Amanda was will learn from this and hopefully stop there shit too. I do not want anybody getting this twisted, I am not saying what she did was ok… AT ALL, Im just saying that I hope everyone that knew her will remember her for who she USED to be, and not the sad person she has become.

  10. GuiltyBystander says:

At the same time a college student without a criminal record(who’s already buckling under the weight of paying for their education) is going to be facing another tuition increase of 16% next year, this woman will have the opportunity to earn her college degree on the taxpayers’ dime if she goes to prison.

Who’s going to be getting punished more, the college student with the clean rap sheet or the felon who stabbed her own mother in the throat?

  11. George says:

For YOUR info, “guess who”, denial is not just a river in Africa. And you STILL need to learn how to NOT type in broken Bulgarian. Or do you speak the same way?

  12. guess who says:

for your info george iam not in any gang again you talk shit before you the facts

  13. guess who says:

  14. George says:

“CantImagine”, they DO have treatment programs in prisons. Everything from AA to drug rehab, mental health, education… but it is up to the person incarcerated to take advantage of those programs. It’s one of those things where if you FORCE someone to get help, they will do it, but it won’t work (kinda like drug court…), but if they opt for the treatment on their own, then it will work much better than if forced on them.

In the case of the “person” in question here, after what looks to be at least FIVE felony convictions (possibly more…), you have to ask “how many more times are we going to give this person a slap on the wrist and admonish them to ‘not do it again’ before we, as society, gives up on them?” After all, they have given up on society by becoming nothing more than animals…

But, your view on things is what could be expected for a state filled with all sorts of “feel-good” nonsense… after all, if we don’t give people chance after chance after chance, they will never be able to show that they are good, right? FIVE felony convictions, FIVE chances to redeem their actions and turn their life around. FIVE. How many more chances should we give this “person”?

This “person” has had all those chances, all those opportunities… and thumbed their nose at society each and every time. It is time for society to turn their backs on this “person” and show it what it feels like. Kinda like what it’s gang did… threw it under the bus!

  15. CantImagine says:

@ Joe…. Do you throw away everything without trying to see if it can be fixed first? The greeners must hate you, dude.

I understand if you are angered by her actions. I am not promoting that she not ‘pay’ for what she has done. I am saying, if you add in some mental health treatment (which may be as simple as medication), you might end up with a person closer to the girl she was and also AVOID future incidences like this. If she had been treated for mental illness during her first stay in prison, she may not have committed this act.

Why would you object to that? Do you enjoy seeing this sort of thing happen?

  16. Joe says:

Yea…CaNTimagine……I can’t imagine anything you say making sense. This is one MESSED up woman, she need to bye bye for a long time.

  17. CantImagine says:

@George – the point I was making, and that you were intentionally missing, is that with treatment, her time in prison (note – treatment and prison TOGETHER) might have resulted in a better product than the one they released.

We cannot afford to put them ALL in prison for LIFE.

If you can – show me the money.

If you think it is cushy – volunteer to go.

I am suggesting a fiscally responsible alternative to what we have.

  18. George says:

Well, “guess who”, when you type in broken Bulgarian like you do, then there is no wonder why you would feel the need to belong to some gang like “The Crazy Vaginas” or whatever it is.

And remember, we hear all you gang bangers yelling all the time about “he/she isn’t in a gang!” or things like that. We know better.

  19. guess who says:

WHAT SHE DID HAD NOT ONE THING TO DO A GANG YOU CANT BE THREW UNDER ABUS AS YOU IF YOU ARE NOT EVEN IN THIS GANG SO MAYBE BEFORE YOU STAR TALKING SHIT GET THE FACTS

  20. Mind blowing says:

Once again right on the money George!!! Thank you.

  21. George says:

@ “CantImagine”, yeah, you’re right. We can’t just go around locking up felons who are not only a threat to themselves, but a threat to society. Why don’t we just open the doors and tell them all to come on out and run free on the streets.

And then there is the whole “While incarceration punishes, it does not rehabilitate or treat.” nonsense of yours. You might want to check again. Incarceration does NOT punish… not when they are given televisions, cable, free mail, free food, free clothes… And then there are all the different programs in the corrections system designed to rehabilitate and treat offenders… everything from anger management to AA to educational programs.

This “person” is a monster, and the “feel-good” people who go around saying things like “Oh, it’s OK, we’ll forgive you, after all, it can’t be your fault that you’re doing drugs or are involved in a gang” don’t do a thing to help… heaven forbid we ever hold these felons accountable for what they do…

And then the whole “gang” thing, where they threw her under the bus like that… yeah, that is real solidarity and family for you there, huh? But then again, what can you expect from a “gang” that has a name that translates into English as “The Crazy Vaginas” (or whatever it is that “LVL” means…)

  22. guess who says:

what dose her ex have to do with what she has done he is not in agang so get your facts stright

  23. rochelle says:

Yeah shes mumblez ex……and see no one wanted to help her!

  24. CantImagine says:

    George….

She was in prison for over three years and came out worse than when she went in. Unless you want to incarcerate (AND PAY FOR) every single felon in prison for LIFE… come up with another song to sing.

While incarceration punishes, it does not rehabilitate or treat.

  25. bahaw says:

    Is this mumbles ex?

  26. Chris says:

But your gang affiliations are still strong, Rawchelle?

  27. rochelle says:

No one in the gang gives 2 shits about her so she doesnt really have any gang affiliations since shes not with her ex anymore! And what a dumb b**** she is for doing this s*** to her mom who was SLEEPING!!!

  28. Mike says:

Yikes, this was just a few houses away from where I once lived. An older couple lived there back in the day. The neighborhood has really gone downhill.

  29. George says:

“Big time mental help” is not what this “person” needs. Look at her court records… at least 4 different felony charges (Lewis County Superior Court doesn’t list the charges, but a felony is bad enough…), and still on the streets. PLUS having a known gang affiliation.

This “person” needs to be put into a cage and left there. Apparently, all the “feel-good” leniency hasn’t made one bit of difference to this “person”…

  30. Bugsy says:

The gangs will protect her if she is affiliated.

Seems this girl needs some big time mental help. Hoping for a full recovery for Mom……

  31. Heather says:

    Oh my goodness!!!
