INTRUDER INTO ROCHESTER HOME ALMOST CAUGHT

• An observant neighbor seems to have thwarted an attempted burglary in Rochester yesterday, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’ deputies were called about 1:50 p.m. to a house on the 18,600 block of Old Highway 99 Southwest after the neighbor saw a man remove a for sale sign from the front yard of a home and jump over a fence into the backyard, according to sheriff’s Lt. Chris Mealy. An arriving deputy saw a man with a baseball cap enter the home through a side door, then another deputy and his K-9 partner arrived and conducted a search inside, Mealy said. They followed a track but didn’t find anyone, Mealy said. The owner couldn’t determine that anything was stolen, but the for sale sign was found in the laundry room, according to Mealy
