CHEHALIS – A family with five children is displaced after a fire broke out in their house yesterday evening northeast of Salkum.

Nobody was home at the time and nobody was injured, according to Fire Investigator Derrick Paul.

Lewis County Fire District 8 called at 7:45 p.m. to the 500 block of Burnt Ridge Road was joined by members of Lewis County Fire District 1.

The first arriving units closed a door to keep the flames at bay until appropriate manpower and apparatus were  on scene to suppress the fire, Paul said.

There was smoke damage throughout the house, but the fire was contained to one room and its contents.

“Both fire district 8 and 1 did an outstanding job on fire suppression efforts,” Paul stated.

Red Cross was on scene to assist the family. The cause is under investigation.
